The Gulfton Global Market has spoken, and the verdict is unanimous: this is exactly what this neighborhood has been waiting for.
On Saturday, July 11, Ser Niños Charter School on Gulfton Street transformed into something that felt less like an event and more like a celebration of everything that makes this community extraordinary. Families came out in full force. Vendor booths stretched across the space, packed with one-of-a-kind finds, handcrafted goods, and global flavors that had people circling back for seconds. The energy from noon to four was the kind you can’t manufacture — it happens when a community actually shows up for itself, and Gulfton showed up.
What Went Down
Let’s start with the food, because it deserves its own moment. The vendor lineup brought a spread that reflected the genuine diversity of Gulfton — bold, aromatic, and impossible to rush through. Whether you were navigating the food options for the first time or returning to a familiar favorite, every bite felt intentional.
On the vendor floor, shoppers discovered the kind of artisan and handmade goods you simply don’t find in a mall or a big-box store. These were makers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs who came to share their craft — and the community responded with enthusiasm.
The kids had a world of their own. Face painting, balloon art, games, and activities kept the younger attendees fully occupied while parents explored the market at their own pace. Prizes were claimed, memories were made, and more than a few families lingered long past the moment they said they would leave.
And then there were the guests.
Clutch, the Houston Rockets’ beloved mascot, made the afternoon unforgettable for every young fan in attendance. Radio Boss “Kiotti” of 93.7 The Beat kept the energy elevated all afternoon. And @HoustonsGotSpice, one of Houston’s most trusted voices in food and culture, brought her signature presence to a market that absolutely earned it.
The event was presented by the Gulfton Management District in partnership with Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, whose support helped make the scale and quality of the afternoon possible.
If You Missed It, Good News
The Gulfton Global Market is not a one-time event. It is a growing tradition, and the next one is already locked in.
Mark your calendar: Saturday, September 13 from 4 to 8 PM at Ser Niños Charter School, 5610 Gulfton St.
This time the market runs into the evening, giving the whole experience a different energy — the kind that comes when the sun starts to set, the music gets a little louder, and the neighborhood lights up. And yes, Clutch and Diesel will both be there. If you thought one mascot was exciting, bring the kids back and prepare for the reaction.
