There are restaurants you go to because they’re convenient. And then there are restaurants you go to because the food demands it. Made in Medellin on Bellaire Boulevard falls squarely into the second category — though, for Gulfton residents, it happens to be right in the neighborhood, too.
Located at 5901 Bellaire Blvd, Suite 106, the Bellaire location is one of a growing family of Made in Medellin outposts across Greater Houston, all founded by twin brothers Carlos and Jose Marquez along with Monica Acevedo. What started in 2014 as a single food truck has expanded into a Houston-area operation spanning multiple restaurants, food trucks, a bar, a production center, and even a market. That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people keep coming back.
The Star of the Show: La Bandeja Paisa
Let’s get right to it. If you walk into Made in Medellin and don’t order the Bandeja Paisa, you’ve made a mistake.
The restaurant’s signature dish is a monument to Colombian comfort food — and to the Antioquian region of Medellin in particular, where the dish originated as a working meal meant to fuel long days. The Made in Medellin version lives up to that legacy. A quarter rotisserie chicken, seasoned beef, crispy pork belly (chicharron that actually crunches), a fried egg, white rice, red beans, sweet plantain, avocado, and a corn arepa — all on one plate. It arrives looking like a challenge and leaves you wondering how you finished it.
For first-timers or lighter appetites, there’s the Bandejita Paisa, a scaled-down version that still delivers the full flavor experience without requiring a nap afterward.
Beyond the Bandeja
The Bandeja Paisa gets the headlines, but the rest of the menu holds its own. The empanadas are consistently praised — golden, crispy, and generously filled, they’re the kind of opener that makes you reconsider your entree order because you want three more. The Punta de Anca (tri-tip steak) is a solid choice for diners looking for something grilled and straightforward, and the chuzos (skewered beef) deliver smoky, well-seasoned bites that pair perfectly with a cold drink.
Speaking of drinks — don’t sleep on the beverages. The limonada de coco has a near-perfect rating among delivery reviewers for a reason. It’s creamy, tangy, and refreshing in that distinctly Colombian way that makes you realize American lemonade has been playing it safe. The fresh fruit juices — mango, lulo, guanabana, maracuya — are all worth exploring, especially if you’ve never encountered some of these fruits before. And for a warm pick-me-up, the aguapanela (a traditional Colombian drink made from unrefined cane sugar) is the kind of thing you didn’t know you needed until the first sip.
The Experience
The Bellaire location is clean, modern, and colorful — the decor nods to Colombian culture without overdoing it. It’s the kind of place that works equally well for a family dinner, a casual lunch with friends, or a solo visit where you just want to eat well and mind your business. The music is present but not overwhelming, and the staff is generally attentive and happy to walk newcomers through the menu.
One note for delivery fans: multiple reviewers across platforms recommend dining in over ordering out. The food travels fine, but the Bandeja Paisa in particular is a dish that deserves to be eaten fresh, hot, and in its full architectural glory. Some things were meant to be experienced at the table.
The Backstory
The Marquez brothers built this brand from the ground up, and the origin story matters. Carlos brought the vision, the structure, and the business acumen. Jose brought the creativity, the willingness to dream big, and the instinct to blend tradition with a modern sensibility. Together, their stated mission is to make Made in Medellin the leading name in Colombian food in Texas — and to use that platform to create jobs, celebrate their culture, and share it with every community they serve.
With the Bellaire location sitting right at the edge of Gulfton, that mission connects directly to this neighborhood. In a community defined by its international palate and its appetite for authenticity, Made in Medellin fits right in.

In a city overflowing with dining options, Made in Medellin earns its spot by doing one thing exceptionally well: delivering honest, generous Colombian food that tastes like somebody’s abuela made it, but in a setting polished enough to bring a date. The Bandeja Paisa alone is worth the visit. Everything else is a bonus.
