Investing in a business does more than improve a single property. It helps strengthen an entire community.
The Gulfton Management District is now accepting applications for its Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Program, offering commercial property owners an opportunity to receive reimbursement funding for exterior improvements that enhance the appearance and vitality of the district.
The program was created by the Gulfton Management District Board of Directors to encourage reinvestment in local commercial properties and support ongoing revitalization efforts throughout the community. Grants are awarded on a case-by-case basis and provide a 50/50 reimbursement match of up to $10,000 per property. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis until annual program funding has been exhausted.
Eligible projects include exterior painting, façade renovations, awning installation, landscaping improvements, parking lot enhancements, and power washing. Projects should contribute positively to the appearance of the surrounding area and comply with all applicable city regulations and permitting requirements.
For many business and property owners, exterior improvements often remain on the wish list for years. The BIG Program helps turn those plans into reality by reducing the financial burden of making meaningful upgrades.
The impact extends beyond a single property. When one business invests in its appearance, it often inspires neighboring businesses to do the same. Improved commercial corridors can attract new customers, encourage additional investment, and help create a stronger sense of pride throughout the district.
The application process is straightforward. Applicants must submit a completed application, project details, contractor estimates, construction bids, photographs of the property, and any supporting documentation required for review. Applications are evaluated based on factors such as project impact, compatibility with surrounding properties, contribution to revitalization efforts, and available funding.
To be eligible, projects must be approved by the Gulfton Management District Board before any work begins. Previously completed work and projects covered by insurance are not eligible for reimbursement.
Upon completion, grant recipients will receive reimbursement after submitting paid invoices, receipts, and project completion photographs. Businesses that participate will also be recognized through Gulfton Management District communications, helping showcase their investment in the community.
As Gulfton continues to grow and evolve, the Business Improvement Grant Program serves as an important tool for supporting local businesses and creating a more attractive environment for residents, customers, and visitors alike.
Business and property owners considering exterior improvements are encouraged to apply early while funding remains available. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and projects must receive approval before work begins.
