Friends,

This past weekend, the District J office joined forces with the Gulfton Management District to host a free tree-planting event on the esplanades near Renwick and Westpark, addressing an important community need. Gulfton, known as one of Houston’s hottest areas, has long been in need of shade, landscaping, and beautification efforts, and this project marks a significant step toward a greener, more inviting neighborhood.

The project was organized under the leadership of Tammy Rodriguez, Chair of the Gulfton Management District, whose dedication to improving the area brought together community resources and partnerships. The entire board of the Gulfton Management District coordinated with Trees for Houston, Greener Gulfton, CenterPoint, the Houston Police Department, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and other local stakeholders, making this initiative a collaborative success. The Gulfton Management District has once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for assessment payers and residents, bringing lasting improvements to the community it serves.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from board members and volunteers who invested their time and effort to make Gulfton a greener, cooler, and more enjoyable area. These tree-planting efforts not only improve the aesthetics of the neighborhood but also bring vital environmental benefits, including reduced heat, improved air quality, and a more sustainable urban landscape. Events like these foster a strong sense of community, encourage volunteerism, and underscore the collective power of neighbors coming together for the common good.

A special thank you goes out to all the board members and volunteers for their invaluable participation. Please see the event recap video below.

Together we will!
