The Gulfton Management District is proud to announce that one of our own, Board Member Dorothy Fuentes, was recently honored for her exceptional leadership and contributions to the community. During a special luncheon organized by Council Member Edward Pollard’s office and the City of Houston, Dorothy was recognized for her tireless efforts in enhancing the quality of life in Gulfton.
A Well-Deserved Recognition
Council Member Edward Pollard presented Dorothy with an official Certificate of Recognition from City Hall, which read:
“To Dorothy Fuentes, in honor of your exceptional leadership, commitment, and dedication to the Hispanic community and the people of the City of Houston. As a board member of the Gulfton Management District and as a manager of Napoleon Square Apartments, your tireless efforts have helped enhance the quality of life for countless individuals in our community. Your steadfast dedication to community service and your ability to bring people together embody the spirit of National Hispanic Heritage Month. We are grateful for your invaluable contributions, which continue to make a positive impact on the lives of residents all across our city.
Thank you for your ongoing service and commitment to the well-being of District J and the broader Houston community. Well deserved.”
Dorothy’s Words of Gratitude
In her acceptance speech, Dorothy expressed heartfelt appreciation:
“First and foremost, I want to express my deep gratitude for this honor. Being recognized for my service to the community during Hispanic Heritage Month is significant. I want to thank the Gulfton community, the Gulfton Management Board, and all those who believe in the work that we do.
To my family, friends, and colleagues, your support has been invaluable. I also want to thank everyone in the community who has inspired and motivated me to serve in Gulfton. I have worked in Gulfton for over 25 years and learned that community engagement is not about giving back; it’s about building a bridge. Understanding and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and ensuring future generations have opportunities to thrive. I encourage each of you to continue engaging with and serving your communities and make a difference wherever you can.
Thank you again for this wonderful award. I am proud to be a part of a community that stands together in service, collaboration, and solidarity. Thank you.”
Recognition from the Mayor’s Office
Veronica Hernandez from the Mayor’s Office also honored Dorothy, sharing heartfelt words about their journey together:
“I met Dorothy several years back. Before her time, Napoleon Square Apartments faced significant violations and challenges with the city. The previous management struggled with legal issues and crime, even to the point where a body was found in a dumpster on the property. Dorothy came in as a property manager who truly cares for the community and the residents. She collaborated closely with the city to improve the quality of life for everyone there.
She attended PIP meetings, worked with storefront officers, and sponsored various events. She invited us to host resource events on her property, providing much-needed services to her tenants. Because of her dedication, we started hosting our National Night Out events at Napoleon Square. The events grew so much that we moved them to Burnett Bayland Park to accommodate more participants from across Gulfton.
Dorothy, thank you for your unwavering support over the years. We appreciate you always welcoming us to your property to host events and serve the residents. You have a heart for service, and we are grateful for everything you’ve done.”
A Legacy of Community Service
Dorothy’s impact on the Gulfton community extends far beyond her role as a property manager and board member. Her commitment to collaboration and community engagement has led to transformative changes, not only improving living conditions but also fostering unity among residents, local businesses, and city officials.
Our Heartfelt Congratulations
We are immensely proud of Dorothy and her achievements. Her dedication embodies the spirit of service and the values that the Gulfton Management District strives to uphold. Her recognition during Hispanic Heritage Month highlights the significant contributions of Hispanic leaders in our community.
