Dear Chris,
June marks the beginning of hurricane season—a time for us to ensure our families and communities are prepared for the potential storms ahead.
At Precinct 4, we are always ready to step up when disaster strikes. Last summer, when a derecho, a tornado, and Hurricane Beryl tore through our county, Precinct 4 delivered aid, cleared debris, and opened cooling centers.
In 2024 alone, we distributed essential supplies, such as food, water, and ice, to more than 20,000 households or approximately 50,000 people, cleared over 17,000 dump trucks full of debris, and kept over 3,000 people cool when they lost power.
This year, forecasters are anticipating an active hurricane season. No matter what happens, Precinct 4 will be here to serve you before, during, and after the storm. Here’s how:
- Disaster Preparedness Workshops
- We are hosting seven disaster preparedness workshops this month to ensure you, your families, and your neighbors are ready for hurricane season. I hope you’ll join us at our upcoming workshop, June 3 at Tracy Gee Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m. A full schedule is available here.
- Generators in Precinct 4 Community Centers, Nursing Homes
- Ahead of hurricane season, Precinct 4 is adding a new generator at Weekley Community Center and a generator docking station at Radack Community Center. These upgrades, along with the three existing generators at our other centers, ensure you have a safe place to go during widespread power outages.
- Commissioners Court has mandated that nursing homes and assisted living facilities in unincorporated Harris County must have backup power generation to keep residents cool and safe.
- Cool 4 the Summer
- My Precinct 4 team and I are giving away 150 free portable air conditioning units to seniors (60+), low-income households, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. If you or someone you know meets these requirements, sign up for the giveaway by June 13.
- State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR)
- This registry helps emergency responders understand the needs of the community before a disaster occurs so they can better plan where to direct resources. If you will require additional assistance during an emergency event, register online, by calling 832-927-4444, or in person by visiting one of our 10 community centers.
As we prepare for hurricane season, I invite you and your families to sign up to volunteer with us. When disaster strikes, we need to unite to help those most affected. Together, we can keep our community safe this hurricane season.
All my best,
Lesely Briones |

‘This is where you need to be’: Precinct 4’s
dumpster operator Craig Hogg has a servant’s heart
Along a small stretch of road in southwest Tomball sit some of Precinct 4’s free public dumpsters. Monday through Saturday, the dumpsters take branches, scrap wood, mattresses, and much more. But without Craig Hogg, the dumpsters wouldn’t operate. Craig has spent nearly a decade with Precinct 4 working various jobs, but since 2022, he has been the sole person in charge of the site. |
