Friends,
As your Council Member, I remain committed to fostering a safe and thriving District J. While we have made great strides, I want to share an update on recent crime statistics to keep you informed about where we stand and how we are working to improve public safety in our community.
Citywide, violent crime has risen by 6% over the past year—a troubling statistic that underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to address crime comprehensively. However, in District J, violent crime has only increased by 2%, and we’ve actually seen a 1% decrease in other types of crime. While there is still more work to do, this progress highlights that our public safety programs are having a meaningful impact.
A key driver of this success is the District J Patrol, which I launched as a modern approach to community policing. This initiative allows residents to report neighborhood concerns directly to DistrictJPatrol.com, where specialized HPD officers respond quickly and transparently. By prioritizing localized issues and enhancing accountability, we are seeing positive results.
Additionally, we continue to focus on prevention by investing in after-school programs, promoting economic opportunities, and working to tackle longstanding challenges like human trafficking.
The safety and well-being of our community are my top priorities, and I am grateful for your partnership in these efforts. Together, we will build on this momentum to ensure District J remains a place where families and businesses can thrive.
Together we will!
Edward Pollard
